E-potfolio

I apologize for this being so late..

I’m here to explain to you on how your e-Portfolio will demonstrate your interdisciplinary, and this is because it will allow you to get organize. You need to also ask yourself this as well…What is the audience / purpose you're thinking of using? For me, it’s an audience that is inclined to learn more about education and the understanding of psychology. My purpose is to express on how vital it is to not only understand what my fieldwork is but to also enjoy what im doing as well. I envision my e-portfolio to look eye grabbing and organized, and I definitely would like my goals to stand out the most! As evidence, I would hope to show all my successful work and dedication that was required for myself!

Understanding Interdisciplinary Integrating Areas

Good evening cornerstone friends! :)

Hope you all had a relaxing weekend! In tonight’s post I want to discuss the meaning and understanding of the interdisciplinary integrating areas.

First, to put in simple terms…the unambiguous gist to integration is when there’s a combination of things or even when there is something being incorporating with one subject to another…For example, you’re degree will be in Interdisciplinary Studies and with that you have a minor and two concentrations. Take me as an illustration, my minor is in education and my two concentrations are in psychology and humanities. My minor definitely is an example of using integration with my other two concentrations. Studying psychology and humanities has and will only benefit me in my minor and main future career as an educator. To have knowledge in psychology and understanding the personalities in people is not only a benefit to teaching, but im so lucky to have had the opportunity to experience different subjects and still have a clearer understanding on my main focus! You need to keep in mind that integration of your areas/minor is important! This is because when you move forward in your professional, academic, and/or personal development… it will not only educate you in different fields but also most importantly, make you an amazing well-rounded individual. As you go to interviews you will have the opportunity to show that you can bring a variety of experience and knowledge to the table. In conclusion, having the degree and familiarity in interdisciplinary integrating areas will only benefit you in your near future! Any other questions or concerns about the understanding interdisciplinary integrating areas please feel free to ask me! :)

Getting to know You:

What are your areas/minors: My areas are Psychology and Humanities and my minor is elementary education.

How do you explai IDS to others: When someone is curious as to what IDS is, i explain it as a major that has a minor and two concentrations in areas that one is interested in. It allows you to be well rounded and divers.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of an IDS education: As far as advantages, i have stated them above. On a personal disadvantage... i will not be able to experience the internships in the schools as a education major would. However, im satisfied with the degree i pursued to do!

About myself!

Allow me to briefly introduce myself! :) My name is Monica Barsky and I am a semester away from receiving my degree with a major in Interdisciplinary Studies, and a minor in Elementary Education. In addition, I hold two concentrations in Psychology and Humanities. I am also in the process of taking my FTC certification exam at the end of this month. As of right now, I am ESOL certified and have had various experiences in classroom settings. I have always felt that teaching was my “calling.” Being able to have the pleasure to experience the gift of shaping and inspiring young minds, especially in the early stages of learning, has always been a long-term goal of mine. I originally came to UCF with the intentions of getting my degree in the college of education. However, after receiving my AA degree from VCC I discovered the college of Interdisciplinary Studies. I was excited to get the chance to learn more about other interests, along with my original plan in the education department; I am, undoubtedly, a team player with an open-mind and an enthusiastic demeanor. I am ready to pursue what I have been diligently studying. Another goal I plan on accomplishing is getting the chance to participate in the Peace Corps, travel, and experience things that I can only imagine!
